Tefaf Maastricht: The Collector's Guide to Europe's Finest Art Fair

Navigating TEFAF requires more than a ticket. Our guide covers private previews, collector's dinners, and the FFGR art advisory service that transforms an art fair into an acquisition expedition.

TEFAF Maastricht — the world's most rigorous art fair

The European Fine Art Fair in Maastricht is, by most measures, the most prestigious art and antiques fair in the world. Its vetting committees examine each work submitted for inclusion with a rigour that no other fair matches — the result is that the 260 dealers who exhibit at TEFAF offer a standard of object that simply cannot be found in the same concentration anywhere else. Old masters, archaeology, furniture of the highest quality, jewellery, works on paper — the range is encyclopaedic, and the quality ceiling is set by the fair's own standards committee, not by the market.

The FFGR Amsterdam–Maastricht transfer

Maastricht is two hours from Amsterdam by Rolls-Royce or Maybach, via the A2 through Eindhoven. FFGR Nederland provides the full door-to-door service: Amsterdam hotel or private address to the MECC Maastricht, with priority drop-off at the VIP entrance. The vehicle waits for the duration of the visit — typically a full day — and returns to Amsterdam, Rotterdam, or any hotel in the Maastricht area as required.

Preview days and private access

TEFAF Preview — the two days before public opening — is accessible only to invited collectors, museum professionals, and press. FFGR's art advisory team holds a network of dealer relationships that facilitates access for our established clients. Preview access transforms the experience: the fair is uncrowded, dealers are available for extended conversations, and acquisitions can be registered before the public opening without competition.

The FFGR art advisory at TEFAF

For clients who wish to collect rather than simply attend, FFGR provides an art advisory service: a specialist adviser accompanies the visit, provides context on dealers and their current offerings, identifies works of particular relevance to the client's collection strategy, and manages the logistics of any acquisition including transport, authentication documentation, and customs if required.

  • Transfer: Amsterdam to MECC Maastricht — 2h by Maybach or Ghost
  • Preview access facilitation: for eligible clients through dealer network
  • Art advisory: specialist accompaniment, collection strategy, acquisition support
  • Hotel programme: TEFAF-period rates at the Crowne Plaza and private residences
  • Acquisition transport: art-handling specialists for same-day collection and secure transit
  • TEFAF dates: annually in March — advance booking essential, preview access strictly limited
At TEFAF, the work is there if you know where to look. The difficulty is not finding it — it is knowing you've found it.
