Gassan, Coster, and the private ateliers of Cornelis Schuytstraat. Our personal shopping team arranges viewings outside retail hours and coordinates secure transport of any acquisition.
Amsterdam and the diamond trade — four centuries of relationship
Amsterdam's connection to the global diamond trade dates to the sixteenth century, when Sephardic Jewish refugees from Antwerp brought the industry to the city and built it into the dominant position it held for three hundred years. The Cullinan diamond passed through Amsterdam hands. The Nassak, the Florentine, the Star of the South — names that appear in the provenance histories of the world's most significant stones trace threads back to workshops on the Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat and the Rembrandtplein district.
The FFGR diamond circuit
FFGR's personal shopping team arranges private viewings at three levels. At the establishment houses — Gassan on Nieuwe Uilenburgerstraat, Coster on the Paulus Potterstraat — viewings outside retail hours are arranged for clients seeking to work without the attention of other visitors. The cutting demonstrations at Gassan, normally conducted for groups, are available for private parties with advance notice, providing an understanding of the process that changes the way one reads a finished stone.
At the atelier level — the independent gem dealers and custom jewellers of the Cornelis Schuytstraat and the Beethovenstraat — FFGR's relationships facilitate introductions that are not available through any public channel. These are craftspeople who work by appointment only, who produce perhaps twelve to fifteen significant pieces per year, and whose clients include several European royal houses. Accessing them requires a credible introduction, which FFGR provides.
Secure transport and acquisition logistics
Any acquisition of value — whether a loose stone, a set piece, or a commissioned work — requires transport appropriate to its significance. FFGR Nederland coordinates secure transfer directly from atelier to safe storage, to insurance vault, or to an international carrier for customs-cleared export. The chauffeur vehicle used for this circuit is equipped with a certified document safe for items up to a defined value; for larger acquisitions, an armoured vehicle is deployed.
- Establishment houses: Gassan, Coster — private viewings outside retail hours
