The Tulip Fields Circuit: A Private Chauffeur Route Through Dutch Spring

From Keukenhof to Noordoostpolder, from Bollenstreek to Texel — our chauffeur team's definitive spring circuit covers 280 kilometres of bloom, designed for photography and contemplation.

The Dutch tulip season — what most visitors miss

The tulip season in the Netherlands is both shorter and more geographically dispersed than most visitors understand. The Keukenhof garden — the world-famous landmark of the bulb industry — represents perhaps five percent of what is actually blooming in the province of South Holland and North Holland in late April. The other ninety-five percent is in the fields: commercial bulb cultivations that run from the Bollenstreek south of Haarlem to the polders of the Noordoostpolder north of the IJsselmeer, covering thousands of hectares in parallel rows of colour that are, at their peak, one of the most extraordinary agricultural landscapes in Europe.

The FFGR spring circuit — route and timing

FFGR Nederland's spring circuit is a full-day itinerary that departs Amsterdam at 8:00 and covers the key bloom areas in sequence from south to north, following the progression of the season. The first section runs through the Bollenstreek between Hillegom and Noordwijkerhout — the elevated dune ridge above the fields provides a viewpoint unavailable from ground level. At the Wieringermeer polder, the fields are a different scale entirely: flat, rectilinear, colour-blocked across a landscape that stretches to the horizon with no obstruction. In the Noordoostpolder, where bulb cultivation was introduced after the land was reclaimed from the IJsselmeer in the 1940s, the combination of water, sky, and bloom on a clear spring morning is, by almost any photographic standard, exceptional.

Timing the bloom

The peak of the tulip season varies by approximately two weeks from year to year depending on spring temperatures. FFGR Nederland monitors the bulb industry's published forecasts and our own network of grower contacts to advise clients on the optimal week for their visit. Booking the circuit in a specific window two months in advance is possible; we recommend a flexible booking that allows a one-week adjustment window around the projected peak.

  • Circuit length: 280 km — Amsterdam, Bollenstreek, Wieringermeer, Noordoostpolder, return

  • Fleet: Range Rover Autobiography for the coastal sections; Maybach for those who prefer a sedan
